Maybe this is a good thing, he did not really consult the opposition in pe .
Mostly because flaky coalition partners wanted more tit-for-tat than they were worth. Marlon Daniels is one example. The DA knew that working with some of their coalition partners would be problematic, and consulting everyone wouldn't be a good idea given the scandal that just about every party has been involved in. Better to not give them too much leeway.
In doing that, the opposition screamed blue murder every time they didn't get their way. Look at the EFF, involved in some alleged nepotism in JHB through shell companies. Getting into a coalition agreement with those kinds of people was never going to end well. Trollip didn't capitulate or let himself be ordered around especially by Bobani, and that's the only reason why he wasn't able to effect lasting change.
EDIT: I won't miss Maimane either. He turned himself into a one-trick pony during the Zuma era, and didn't progress beyond that. De Lille is power hungry and self-serving, always a snake in the grass. Anyone else in the DA who dragged identity politics into the mix might as well leave now as well. It doesn't work for them, and a strategy that only really benefits parties that are right of center or very right-wing.
