M-Net Action Wins International Award

by TVSA Newsdesk

M-Net Action has won a Hot Bird TV Award in the Fiction category, a first for South African television.

The Hot Bird TV Awards is an annual event which celebrates the development and viewing experience of television channels across the world. The awards highlight excellence and innovation in thematic satellite television.

More than 150 channels from 20 countries entered the competition.

M-Net Action collected the award ahead of strong competition from FOX Retro, an Italian channel; and Tele Klub, a Russian Federation.

The channel was announced as the winner at the Gala event held in Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista, in Venice Italy on Friday.

It was a case of first time lucky for the M-Net stable, as it is the first time they have entered one of their channels for the awards, according to Genre Channels Manager Khosi Khanyile.

"This was the first time that M-Net had entered any of its channels into the awards and it’s a great honour for the channel to be recognised on such a grand scale," she said in a press statement.

Created in 1998 by Eutelsat, Europe’s leading satellite operator, this competition aims to draw attention to quality thematic television productions, new concepts that capture audience attention and enrich viewing experience.

M-Net Action is home to several top international productions including 24, the Stargate franchise, Ghost Whisperer, The Contender, Breaking Bad and Rescue Me.

I find it bizarre that this specific channel won.

Personally i find MNET Action very useful for niche content[Old horrors, porn etc.].

Yeah it is odd as Mnet Action doesn't really show much great movies but all those niche movies...
