I ported from Vodacom on 26 June 2007 to MTN(Italk)
Vodacom received the port notification and the port was succesful. I was out of my contract time and thus on 'month to month' as I hadnt renewed the contract.

I found that Vodacom have been billing me R459 per month since June. Apparently I was supposed to have called them and cancelled. I was not aware of this and as far as I am concerned, the port request away from them was notice that I was leaving. I mean really....why would I want to port but still be billed??

I am about to have another R459 go off my account which I have asked the bank to reverse. But according to Vodacom my call this morning was my notice of cancellation so they will forever think I owe them R459.

Vodacom3G, please could you advise me on this?

To everyone else: please make sure you draw your old cell provider a detailed picture when you port away from them.

U say, u ported from Vodacom to MTN (iTalk). Was the Voda contract also from iTalk or Voad SP?

"I found that Vodacom have been billing me R459 per month since June"
When exactly did u find out. Surely u must have noticed this immediately after they continued to bill u????

As far as I know, Voda SP unlike Nashua, iTalk, etc, has no notice periods! Once your contract comes to an end, the line/sim will be disconnected by midnight!

Otherwise I agree with you, if your contract is about to expire and you have no intention of staying with the SP, please notify them in writing at least 2 months before!

I was with Vocacom SP. My contract had run its course and I did not renew it. So therefore I was paying month by month.

I didnt spot it sooner as I suppose I wasnt expecting vodacom to keep billing me after I ported. Silly I know but suffice to say I just didnt see it coming off my account (theres hoardes of transactions on that business account)

The point for me is that I thought the porting process meant leaving one SP and moving to another. Italk say they told me to cancel with Voda, maybe they did. Who knows. Too late for that now. I just am so disappointed at this whole porting thing. Nothing is ever simple and I'm convinced that these things are meant to be confusing to the man on the street.

Maybe all the service providers have different procedures. I ported from Cell C to MTN SP without any hassles. There was no need to cancel or even contact Cell C. Everything was handled by MTN. My Cell C sim was de-activated within 24 hours, and I got my new MTN sim within 48 hours. No hassles or problems at all.

Can't the MNP procedure be standardized across the board?
