Sounds like a great idea. But how are they going to do the routing of the calls if there is no central "map" of where the other phone is?

Sounds great in principle, I guess they'll have to have some sort of routing table similar to what Gnutella and other P2P networks use? The biggest problem is the frequencies I guess and that the major networks are unlikely to sell phones with this feature as it effectively bypasses them.
