I have a few questions about the battery in the sentech modem.

Currently I leave my modem plugged into the main power source all the time.

What I want to know is -

By leaving it plugged in will this damage the battery over time or is it a wise idea to let the battery run once in a while the recharge it... much like one would maintain a battery in a cellphone.

If your battery does get damaged or fails to work for whatever reason... will your modem still work with the main power source...

I know these sound like daft questions but I must admit I am quiet daft with such issues

The battery is a Lithium Ion. These batteries do not suffer from the "Memory" of previous generation batteries, and you should have no problem leaving it plugged in. The new generation of cell phones are coming with LI batteries. Smaller and lighter with more power.

Not quite true as I understand it.

Li-Ion batteries do suffer gradually degradation from receiving repeated small charges. You can classically see this on a laptop which spends most of its life connected to a power supply. The battery does tend to degrade. The problem is long term one and quite frankly there is nothing you can do about it because you can't remove the battery from your Sucktech modem. The modem also receives a trickle charge from the USB port when its not connected to the mains power but I very much doubt this would power the modem alone.

I would not let it bother you.

Uhm ... looking over the specs you may all be a tad off the mark.

The units don't use a battery. They use a high energy capacitor. These slow discharge units should not suffer from "memory" etc.

"Rechargeable internal Lithium-Ion battery." Exactly where does any information on the modem say capacitor?

From previous discussions with the guys at FastComm it was made rather clear that it's not a battery.

I see that the new units (Model-D), the SA ones are Model-C, seem to be battery powered.

Busy looking for the older spec sheets....
