The other day I needed to change the account on my Marconi Router Pots, so I access it via the IP, change the details like I have done 100 times before and upon clicking save and restart the screen goes blank. I wait a bit then it says the page can not be found. That is the last response I would ever receive from my poor modem. I tried resetting, holding down reset... nada! In the end I had to go to hellkom to start a fight. My modem is 1 month out of guarantee. Telkom only use a one year guarantee unlike netgeear who will often have a 3/5 year.

Any ways, very upset and skint I went on the search for a "budget" Ethernet router. After many hours of searching I found 1X Microcom 1 port bridgeable ADSL Ethernet router for R600. The modem is basically to the T, the Marconi modem. Run on the Conextant chipset it was easy to configure, and seemingly faster(faster as it flashing/rebooting) the Marconi. It just goes to show that Hellkom is just making the extra buck for themselves. What is stopping them making that modem there "Telkom/ICASA approved modem", at half the price I think alot more people would go for it.

Are there any other modems out the significantly cheaper? I would be very interested to see a bit of a comparison?
