With the plethora of Chinese Android phones out there, I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for them (instead of a thread for every gem that we find).

Edit: ZAR5k/USD350 limit

I'll kick off the thread with this one:

UMI Plus E 4G Phablet
Android 6.0 5.5 inch FHD Screen Helio P20 Octa Core 2.3GHz 6GB RAM 64GB ROM Fingerprint Scanner 5.0MP + 13.0MP Cameras Type-C
Dual Sim
4G
4000mAh Battery
Current price: $228.99

"Cannot be shipped to South Africa"? Is that correct?

Umi Plus is about R500 cheaper at DX. Lenovo is

Didn't check out shipping options; prices may not be the cheapest on the links I post - just for reference.

Lenono Zuk Z2 seems to be the cheapest phone with a Snapdragon 820.

do some googling, some of the Chinese phones send your data back to China without you even knowing it.

Apart from the spying concerns, the low budget Chinese dudes are notoriously poor at support...enjoy being stuck on the shipped version of Android for the device's lifespan.

https://www.cyberscoop.com/android-malware-china-huawei-zte-kryptowire-blu-products/

According to the Chinese startups’ official website, Adups’ clients include two of China’s largest cellphone manufacturers: ZTE and Huawei.*BLU Products, an American phone manufacturer,*told the New York Times that 120,000 of its phones were affected and that a subsequent software update would eliminate the surveillance feature.
Not sure why you'd say it's only Chinese phones...

Xiaomis Miui rom is Open Source anyway so I prefer them.

Like almost all Android phones out there unless you buy a flagship device or Pixel/Nexus. For the price you pay you can upgrade more frequently so that negates the "need" for big updates.

My Doogee DG700 was shipped with Kitkat. There has been no official update but there are many ROM's out there. I'm running Lollipop as we speak.

How can that be possible? Is there definite proof? Please provide a reputable reference / link
Sorry I left out part of my post
