What do you feel is the appropriate recommended amount of money to carry with you at all times. What is too little what is too much?

Thanks :)

I think around R500 is sufficient to carry on me. Enough for lunch and petrol and to bribe the local traffic department;)

I usually draw about R500 at a time. I don't like to carry more than that in my wallet.

The other day I drew R500 again and the ATM paid out in R20s.

I think R500 is just about right but that might last me over a couple of days.

I have a credit card so for groceries and such I always use that. It's only for miscellaneous things that I use cash.

I'm not a plastic fan so I usually carry R400-R600 on my person.
The other day a friend of mine drew cash and got a load of R200 notes

I try to carry zero.
Mostly because if I carry any more, it disappears into that spent place.

I don't think I've carried cash for about a year and a half. No real reason for it.

Try not to carry cash. Then beggars and coworkers and carguards can't get anything from me.I just show them my empty wallet. Wish one could pay at car parking stations with cards.

It's free to swipe my debit or credit card so there is no cash incentive (and ATM fees are so horrible these days)

about R800 - R1500, cash is king

Until you get robbed that is. At least with my cards I'm protected by insurance. The most they can take is my wallet (with nothing in it) and my cellphone.

Pet peeve of mine is women and their handbags. They'll carry their drivers license, credit cards, cellphone, cash (usually around that number quoted as "cash is king"), their ID book, birth certificate, house keys, moms house keys, boyfriends house keys, car keys, other cars keys, the kitchen sink...

And then when they get robbed they spend 3months+ getting their life back... PLUS they're out a substantial amount of money and can't afford to pay for ****...

Don't know about you, but swiping a card is free at my bank... so just as good as cash

I never carry money on me, if i need to buy stuff i go and draw money and spend it.

These days everything is so electronic i don't feel the need to carry money where i do not have to.

Yeah I only use cash for petrol payments, I'll no longer have to as I have a garage card thats free to swipe, for most other purchases I use my credit card which is free to swipe aswell.

I normally pay for things with a debit card, but keep a few rands in my possession for small items. No more than R 100.

I was under the impression that it was free- since it saves the banks having to dispense cash to ATMs. For stuff like groceries I go the debit card route but anything else its either cash or credit card.
