So it's not easy saving money in SA, but I've discovered two pretty weird travel tips that might help others:

1) Did you know that British Airways frequently has cheaper flights between Cape Town and Johannesburg than FlySafair? It's true, I just confirmed it again on a flight I'm taking this month. I think it's just thanks to the large number of flights they still have every day (so as a fringe benefit you can also get a flight time that suits you better).

2) Did you know that if you simply create an account on Europcar Drive Club, you qualify for a ridiculous saving (like 25% outright)? This makes it cheaper to book rental cars through Europcar than it does through Thrifty, which sounds counterintuitive but again ... I just saved R500 doing that.

3) (Bonus third tip) For my English-speaking brethren, you may not yet have discovered the joys of https://www.lekkeslaap.co.za/ Super cheap accommodation - and you can select English as your language preference (I've booked a three-star apartment for only R560/night ... score?)

What tips do you have?

Register on a cashback site like topcashback, Quidco etc and you can get cashback for free (then transfer to paypal account). You can pretty much get cashback on most international travel chains.
