Her husband was an Internationally renowned conservationist, now retired to my town and a frequent customer in the store....

I mentioned to her that I was planning a quick weekend camp down at Hohenfels (an old German Colonial farm and Police Station in the Sperrgebiedt) ....

"Oh! I will be popping down there on Friday morning as I have a few camera traps to put up, you know the leopards have cubs now...", she mention with a slight smile...

"Leopards?", I blurted out before adding ," Leopards at Hohenfels......?"

"Yes! Moose, we have been tracking their progress, don't worry they are shy and nocturnal", she added.....before walking away.....

An hour later the mobile went , "Moose, it's T here, I heard you are going camping with the leopards ", he said , "Don't worry you should be fine, take your dog with , just keep him in the tent at night with you, it's not like lions that will rip your tent open to get at you...." he went on giving me pointers about camping with real life...

In the end, the dog stayed and I went to camp......

The weather was stunning, the company fantastic, the kids having a blast, the beers adding to the smell of the lamb rib.....

The wind died down and the meandering river gave up her beauty, stars came out and we chatted, more beer.....more moaning about how tough it was living in Africa......

Anyhow, how things go with me on these camps, WAYYYYYYYY! to much beer, kids all tucked up safely in a tent and I drag a matrass out on the ground near the camp, my eyes full of stars as I lay on my back, a shooting star scars the dark night above my head and I drift off.......... the last thing on my mind..... Leopard Schmepards!

The following morning after making Monster Chakalaka Bacon and Eggs, a cup of steaming coffee in my dirty hands, I start to wander off for a wee piss, when less than 20m from where I had laid my weary head I encounter.....

"leopard schmepard! How cool , so close", I murmer to myself before wandering off to encounter even more tracks.....

Ironically I had read of a man in the Namibian town of Berseba that had been attacked by a leopard a mere five days ago...... and wondered to myself what the man had been doing to piss of the feline.....

I sipped and stared at the view......

"This place, this Africa......", I smiled.....

How big's the dog and what do you figure his chances against a leopard?
