More Capping Questions

With Telkom's capping policy, it has become near impossible to accurately manage our ADSL usage.

We must have internet access for the entire month for business purposes and we cannot afford a second account. We currently use Telkoms's 3GB 512 option. What amount of usage would be the safest to prevent us from being capped?

I know the short answer is '3Gig', but since it seems no one has been capped at exactly 3Gigs for the last few months, I'm sure there's a safe average usage that one can utilise without being capped? Maybe 4 or 5 Gigs?

Since the start of hardcapping I have averaged about 7 gig on a 3 gig account - I was capped only once on 7.9 gig 3 days before monthend.

Thanks. I've seen the threads where people indicate their usage and cap status over the last few months, but I'm too lazy to do the math. Is there a way one could see usage stats for all South African ADSL accounts?

Only telkom does relaxed capping. You are however not guaranteed to get for instance 7gb per month. They cap randomly. My opinion would be to work on 7 - 8 with an option if capped to take a 1gb prepaid (R70) from Webafrica, which might even sort you out end of the next month if you are not a heavy user.

Since there are usage trackers, would it be possible for Telkom (or another party) to inform ADSL users of how close to the relaxed cap they are?

A few months ago I gave the relaxed capping Telkom account a try. The first month I was capped at about 7gb. The second month I was capped at 4gb. I then cancelled the account, as it was of no value to me.

So it is completely random.

I agree with PearlJam. If you want to take a chance with Telkom's seriously messed up logic, then at least take a 1GB prepaid account with Web Africa.

I was wondering if you guys can help me. I got my account on Saturday and i have not dowloaded a dam thing. They now say i have used 2.2 gigs already. How can this be. I have not watched videos, live audio, or even dowloaded any programs or files.
I have telkom 312 speed, with cybersmart 3gig for R125.
What do i do

Ram looks like you have become a victim of the numerous adsl account thefts in SA. Change your password immediately, as well has the default password to access your router....
