Big DStv channel changes

MultiChoice has announced that DStv Compact customers will get access to five new channels and an extra stream, allowing them to stream on two devices simultaneously from 1 April 2025.

The new DStv Compact channels include SuperSport Action on channel 210, Africa Magic Showcase on 151, CBS Justice on 170, Curiosity Channel on 185, and History Channel on 186.

One way to cover up those price increases I presume now less people will pay for Premium and Compact+ seeing as the lot is fleeing to cheaper packages.

To be completely honest, the addition of SS Action to the Compact package almost makes it feel worth it as soccer, rugby league, ice hockey, baseball, MMA, WWE and boxing are what I care about.

I don't care much for that dull ruck and maul nonsense (at least not beyond YouTube highlights), thus I have no desire for Premium. I want to see the second season of Shaka Ilembe too.

I am only considering DSTV streaming here, not the decoder option. Not all of us sail the high seas.

And it's guys like you that Multichoice could have plenty of involved, IF they bothered to face reality and make smaller sports package options for other interests as well. Especially for the two SA-greats - Rugby and Cricket.

Maybe Canal+ could look to bundle premium sports for R450p/m

Does current Multichoice management think that the net is somehow going to offer less sports options in the future?

Bet you Canal+ doesn't think that way.
Tick, tick.. tick, tick

Canal+ stated that they would not change the existing packages in any way. They only view Multichoice as an investment option and don't care much about how the company is run. Pleasing paying subscribers are the least of their priorities.

Watch how they'll change their tune in a few months. A highly successful company like Canal+ will ensure enough is done to stabilise profits where at all possible, that I've no doubt about. How else could you call it an "investment"?

To expand on my previous statement, I imagine the sports offering will be like AddMovies and let's look at it AddMovies is part of the premium offering they're not paying extra R79 for two movie channels. What I can imagine is them launching a non-football package for all DStv customers while others like Access are given a football package amounting R450 and you pay both on Access that's R900p/m + R150p/m for Access in general.

(BTW, for those who don't know - DStv mixes up their product names quite often, in this case @Insidus is both referring to the Access package and then the Access service option.)

You can identify the difference based on the pricing at least I mentioned them as to not drive confusion cause that Access fee is less than R100.

Why would a football package cost more than DSTV Compact? I imagine a Grandstand/Rugby/Cricket add-on would cost around R700 if you have Access.
