More competition and regulation needed to cut mobile data roaming costs: OECD

A new report by the OECD said that the high cost of mobile data roaming could be addressed with more effective competition and better regulation

Seriously, if you have the systems set up to allow roaming to happen ESPECIALLY PREPAID then you have no need to charge higher rates than your normal customers (from the roaming provider network). Then your home network should add a SMALL fee to cover billing and a little bit of profit, but that is it. Average cost per MB of US$9- please, there is no way anyone can justify those prices.

I mean seriously if the roaming rates start looking like Satellite phone data rates there is a problem....

But I thought that it's really expensive to run a mobile network, that the networks are battling to make money and that adding more competition would destroy the industry.
