As I got a nasty trojan bugger on my windows install a while ago (work laptop) I decided to kick Windows off and install Ubuntu - this was about two weeks ago.
Today I had to test incoming SMTP functionality - and I only had this Ubuntu laptop.
So I whipped out the trusty Huawei E220 usb dongle, and plugged it in. Ubuntu correctly identified the device, and asked me in which country I am located.
A click on South Africa brought up CellC, Vodacom, Virgin Mobile and MTN - but no Telkom. I selected the option 'Not on the list', entered 'Telkom' and it set the connection up automatically, and connected before I could blink my eyes.

I am very impressed.
Will be testing this out with a voda SIM and see if it can detect the SIM change.

Not once did I need to open the terminal and type in some arcane commands, or do some internet google-fu... it was all automatically. And in less time that you would get a windows box to do the same...
Very impressed
Maverick Meerkat should be better than Lucid Lynx...
