I just cancelled a residential ADSL line at the end of July as we moved.
So today I get the latest account for that number, dated 12 Aug 2006 and of course guess what I am still getting billed like there is no tomorrow for that line.

I call 10210 (accounts) and enquire why I am still getting billed.
Answer: We do have your cancellation order on the system but ADSL requires one month notice period to cancel.

I have cancelled a number of ADSL lines over the years and never experienced this notice period before has anyone else?

Of course trying to get a copy of Telkom’s ADSL terms and conditions where it mentions their cancellation policy is also mission impossible.

Who can I/we contact to get some clarity on this issue?

These things are online. There are about three or four of them that apply in your case. There may be a thread on MyADSL where I posted all these relevent links. you may want to search for that. otherwise search the telkom site over and over, with different terms related to ADSL. these documents will come up sooner or later. They are there, just a beeeacth to find.

I'm surprized that it's not like a 6 months notice.....

Especially since we have to give them like a year to install your ADSL line

I did search both Telkom.co.za and MyADSL.
Could not find any relevant post on MyADSL and could not find any metion of it in any of Telkoms terms and conditions on their website and doing a search on their site is useless

H. TERMINATION

1. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in this agreement, Telkom SA shall at any time be entitled to terminate this agreement on not less than 30 (days) notice to such effect to the customer, Telkom SA making due refunds. In the case of a month to month agreement the customer shall give Telkom SA one calendar month notice of termination.

A google SA search.

But it is only on thier old site, Telkomsa.net. No idea why, and you are right it isnt on their new site.
But there ARE tons of threads about it on myADSL, they come up on the google search.

That is the Telkomsa internet access agreement, got nothing to do with the line rental agreement which should be on the telkom.co.za website.

The adsl_terms link refers to the adsl accounts.

Assuming this 1 months notice for ADSL cancellation is legally binding, is there any other sort of cancellation charge for telling them you don't want their crappy offering anymore?

I'm probably going to apply for ADSL self-install in the next 24 hrs, and would just like to know what I am in for if I decide to cancel ADSL next year sometime (early to mid 2007). The Telkom account is not in my name, so if I cancel because I move somewhere else, it's not like I'll be taking up ADSL under the same account number, hence getting a discount or something...
