Big electric car milestone in South Africa

Annual sales of electric vehicles (EVs) in South Africa exceeded 1,000 units for the first time ever in 2024.

Data from Lighstone Auto and the National Automobile Association of South Africa (Naamsa) showed that 1,130 new EVs were registered in the country between January and October 2024.

I’ve been seeing slightly more BYD’s on the roads of CT, effectively just the Atto 3 with the odd Dolphin thrown in the mix.

Some salesman told my wife her car got a electric something, and her car does have a exhaust pipe, meaning e cars does have those pipes.

maybe security companies are deciding to get used I3's as its basically a glorified golf cart.
but I struggle to see people trading in their ICE vehicle for a EV, and living with the Range and impracticality of it.

but yes, in certain environments EV's make a lot of sense. especially for something like Security work, delivery fleets,
Taxi's

the day I see a EV Hiace is the day I say EV's have finally become mainstream.

This EV Hiace will happen when we get bolt on or hot swappable. No way those sound systems can keep pumping when the range is depleting.

Jumped in the EX and have to say if that thing went for 500k they would be selling thousands a month! It's pretty decent for work and quick trips to the shops, decent size and good comfort thar type of use.

Well I just hope these EVs die a quick death.. Sooner the better.. What an expensive waste of time and effort. Hope that net/carbon zero also dies soon. Judging by the VW factories closing, besides others, it probably will. I'm sure Trump and allies will sort NWO Klaus, starmer and others out too.

Show us on the doll where the EV touched you?

Rofl! You're setting yourself up for disappointment. EV's are not just going big, everywhere - They will become the standard.

A car you can "fuel" from your roof. What's not to like? Already I can see that between my solar installation at home, which I'm still planning to beef up in the next few years, and the EV I plan to get some time in the next 5 years, I'll be able to retire years earlier. At least from the serious grind. As soon as the busybodies in government drop the special EV import tax, and adjust the luxury vehicle tax appropriately (some time before you can barely buy a dozen eggs for the R250k a vehicle has to be priced at to qualify as a luxury car ) - EV's are going to get cheap AF, and then they're taking off here chom. Big time.

Also all the warra Trump dribbled into people's ears was all just to get elected. Just like last time, the only thing he'll actually spend energy on while in office, will be to make some concessions to the US oil and gas industry. They want to export more oil and gas. And just like last time. By the time he leaves office. On his feet, or in a coffin (the verdict is still out) - He'll have only achieved a few months of delay for his sponsors. And people, including his supporters and allies, will be reeling from how embarrassing, duplicitous and disloyal the fat **** is.

I've got bad news for you

Found the delusional guy that still uses dial-up.

A Series Hybrid with Vehicle to Load tech, V2L, means a powerful, highly portable genset, wherever you (and your car) are...

Get home during load shedding.
Get out the car, and plug it in:
Lights, TV, internet, everything!

Battery handles load spikes/peaks etc and the engine, 'gensets' the house's average power at constant rpm once the battery reaches a chosen state of discharge.
(+ some to charge the battery simultaneously)

Efficiency modding constant rpm ICEs is way easier.
Tuned length exhaust and intake tracks, with the cams in mind etc...

Driving:
No gears. Torque!!
No range anxiously.
Engine comes on at constant, optimal rpm at a battery level/s of your choosing. Automatically.

That said; at a constant cruise speed of 120 say:
Turning the rotating motion of the ICE into electricity - into chemical battery energy - into electricity - into rotating motion again, is less efficient.

So ideally:
At constant speed/highway conditions you'd want to engage the engine directly. Preferably automatically

I looked. (quite hard) and BYD seems to be the only one to tick all those boxes.
2.9 l per 100 km on a depleted battery.

Any other car makes doing similar??

EVs have a slightly longer lifespan than plastic cutlery and are for woke lefties. A better option would be to buy a 50 year old Mustang which you can pick up for as little as £20 000 - Better looking, longer lifespan, more reliable, better resale value and lots of fun to drive.
