The first objection would be that you are not giving your pention to the ANC, you are giving it to the Government to use for 'investments'. (Although we all knows that there isn't any noticeable between the two as the Ruling party ANC determins the way the Government implements laws and regulations. And also the people implementing those laws and regulation, even though they work in government, follows ANC principles.

That said. in both cases if I had a choice it would not give my money to any of those two entities, or even ANY political party of government to 'grow'. They are just not geared for that.

It can be argued that governments job is to create the environment for the economy to function (thus ensuring roads are built and maintanced and power is supplied) at a cost efffective and non-wasteful way ofcourse, but if not possible that there might be some cross subsidizing required.

Think about roads. There is no way the tarred road outside my house will directly contribute to the economy, but it enables me and my neighbors to get to work effectively and somewhat efficiently. But the expense of the road itself and maintenance is likely not going to be directly covered by my municipal rates and taxes

So government will spend the money on capital projects, whether it makes a profit or most likely not.

Whereas private institutions will invest the money there where it might provide the best returns for the client.

Different mindsets.

I don't see it as giving it to the ANC but if they did create a pension fund that was going to be used for developing SA where we had some kind of input into how it should be used then I might consider contributing. But I would always keep my private RA's even if they reduced the tax incentive on those investments.

The road outside my house is maintained by the Municipality, so it comes out of their budget.
But the Municipality does get money allocated from the central fiscus as well. So there is some cross-subsidization involved along the way somewhere. Funny money at least....

The point I was raising is that government will SPEND the money and not really care about he value proposition, whereas a 'for profit' entity will try to get you the best returns otherwise you will go to another company.

Without watching the video, (and I doubt it would change my opinion if I did) the answer is a straight up no.

The ANC (in government) have zero track record of effective use of money to generate returns.

The sad irony is many who now say no would have happily handed it over to the ANC during their first few years in power.

I skipped the video and went straight to No. The ANC or government, even the municipality takes a lot more of my money than I believe that I am getting value for, they are not taking a cent more.

Would I give my pension money to a junkie that has already ransacked my house and stolen many of my possessions?

Let me think about that for a bit.

Nope, but it looks like they are going to take my wife's GEPF anyway. I wish we would have moved it 2 years ago before they put a lock on GEPFs. Now she apparently has to resign her post to move it.
