Eish fellow brothers in flames, if you're looking for a tender, juicy piece of steak, then please avoid this kak from Checkers. This poor beast's flesh would have been better used to make rugby balls.
Ended up with four plates of disappointment :crying:
Interesting. I made a Philly Cheesesteak Sammich with it a few weeks back. I got their Porterhouse. It was easily one of the most tender and tasty pieces of meat I have worked with to date. Steak strips (which usually dry out terribly) was tender, juicy and full of flavour. I can't wait to try them again. How did you prep/cook them?

Would that be "Sunday Morning Coming Down" ....Ray Stevens version ?

Will claim a famous Moose point ;-)

Nope! That would be the Kris Kristofferson version.........

Johnny Cash also does a version, Back in the 70's as a youngster I would waken to the smell of bacon frying around 09H00, Country Music could be heard permeating down the hallway.... Often artists like The Highwaymen, Ray Charles, Dolly Partner, Tommy Dell .....

On entering the kitchen as the early morning sun filtered through the dusty windows I would find my late father, cigarette hanging from his mouth , spatula in one hand and a bottle of Castle lager balanced next to the frying pan.....

Smiling from ear to ear..... like there was no tomorrow........

Wonder what footage was found ?

It revealed that after I had sent everyone home into the dark early Namibian night, I headed straight for the beer fridge and armed myself with a six pack, then to the deli fridges where I took some choice Hartlief meats, stumbled down the aisle to my office whilst singing to whatever was playing over the PA....

Went into my office where I only exited almost three hours later....

This intrigued me, for the mystery remained...... what had I done in my office for all that time... All was to be revealed a mere twenty four hours later.....

The pre packed Cattleman ones?
Cooked these ones like usual, hot hot coals, two minutes a side, rare to medium. I've had steak from Checkers before, but something was very wrong with this batch.

Yep, pre-packed cattlemans. I struggled to slice the steaks cold, and I even packed them in the freezer to stiffen up, so tender were they. Cheesesteak Sammys turned out GREAT:

Yes don't buy steak from Checkers.
The big problem with the mass produced Zilmax beef Checkers stocks is the inconsistency.
Some carcasses can be quite tender, but others are very tough and the average is decidedly mediocre.

Checkers has better steaks than my local butcher. Other meats is appalling, but their steaks are great. It is greatly dependent on the specific store, though, I've found.

This, I buy 90% of my steaks from Checkers due to some strong ebucks pressure. But the store I buy from has never failed me. Juicy, tender and delicious.
