But is charcoal really cheaper than wood? I think wood is cheaper. Lately I have been using Kameeldoring and Rooikrans mixed, maximum eight pieces and it works perfectly.

If you are making pot start with wood and add charcoal to keep the heat going.

Yes will work fine.
Best way to lite charcoal is with a chimney starter. Very efficient and quick. Only needs a small piece of blitz or even some newspaper to get it started.

I prefer the blitz, the newspaper tends to throw up too much garbage into the air, even a small amount.

A question for you guys who use charcoal, which I've almost never used.

Bought a bag now because I'm making more potjie during lockdown and wood can get pricey, but is the best way to just light some blitz and stack a few coals on top? And then once they hot I can just add a couple of fresh ones and the heat of the older coals will be enough to get them going?

Charcoal or briquettes?

Problem with wood is that I may way more coals than I need for a potjie when using wood, which is great when having a lekker braai - but during lockdown I've just been making potjie to try new recipes... not necessarily chill by the fire.

Tried first the "woodlike" pieces, now bought a bag of the round lumps... not sure which is which. Sorry, wasn't joking when I said I don't know anything about charcoal.

Finishing off another bottle tonight, with the end of a KWV 5.

But will be joining the @PapaSmurf home brewing academy tomorrow with a batch of the now world famous pinnacle beer and some apple cider going into the fermentation containers. View attachment 830181
I've just cracked open the third bottle from my Brandy collection that I swore I wouldn't open until I have my own bar area

Jip not good, whisky and brandy falling one by one this side. Have plenty of gin left, but haven't really been in the mood for G&T lately.

Next up will be some really special reds. Hope I don't need to start going through them as well.

Will trade brandy for some special red The only thing I've not been able to wangle is any sort of wine.

I only have 2 bottles of sparkling wine left which will have to do as whites.
2 or 3 reds that I would not mind to drink, the rest of them will all go down while shedding a tear.

But a man's gotto do what a man's gotto do.
