My braai has burned through and now leaks rusty water stains underneath it if left in the rain accidentally.
So I need a new one.
I think its time for a weber or similar kettle braai in the 57cm or above range.
I need the portability and I like the roundness as I intend to be able to use it for kuirvuurtjies too.
Obviously stainless steel would be nice as I intend to use it like I always do with hard wood.
I have some concerns though.
How would I adjust the cooking height? (I like my current brick arrangement because it gives me height and rotational adjustment)
I could put a big flat grid over the top and then put bricks on that.
I would perhaps like to drop the height and I see the Smurf has short legs for his?

If anyone has any comments, ideas or suggestions for which brand/model to go for or any other tips I'd be grateful as I've never used a kettle braai before and I don't intend to use it as an oven most of the time.

3 Weeks ago i travelled the West Coast from top to bottom. Two MOERSE concerns at all places:
Fcking braai rooster is either rusted or covered in 25 lambs fat and whatever schit was cooked on it.
There's 1 brick broken in half in the braai where the grid must lay on. WTF ?
Are the Cape people fcking idiots when it comes to a braai ? How the fck do you braai everything 5mm above the coals ? And that on a fcked up grid. Luckily i travel with my own grid and WILL design a portable cooking height magafter to travel with the grid.

O yes - A webber is not build for big fires, it wants donkie drolle.
Smurf chopped his legs shorter with an angle grinder.

I see some secondhand webers around and the bottom grids look like they can't handle a wood fire for long or am I mistaken?
I've also seen posts of people claiming to have used wood for a decade or more without issue?
There are also many different brands...is weber the toughest of the bunch or are there better ones for use with wood?

I also plan to use my weber for some wood, but more for starter wood for making pizzas. I asked the question before and many use it for wood too.

Having only recently started using a weber and being a wood snob before I can honestly say that I don't mind braaing on on briquettes as much as I thought I would. I add some pieces of smoking wood to the coal starter to make myself feel better about having some wood coal.
