I closed mine a bit on my first gas braai because i have previously noticed that choppies in the oven are also very delicious.

Indeed, you mess a little of the sauce over the edge of the mat which smokes when it hits the flames, ... close lid and yum yum yum.

Cheapest way is go to your local petrol station and buy the 9kg bottles of gas, it's about R200 and R200 deposit, when it is empty you just exchange the bottle again for another R200. Way cheaper than buying your own bottle off Takealot and then having it filled
