Let me put it this way.

Would you rather be in an accident in the Celerio or one of the cars I posted?
No offense man but it looks like you failed to grasp my (valid) viewpoint of “no one shoe fits all” especially wrt your “dom” wording. So I’ll leave it at that.

Just like it took a long time for South Africans to understand that a Chinese car is not going to blow itself into pieces the minute you drive off the dealer floor, it is going to take a while for people to wrap their mind around the concept of new versus quality.

There's nothing wrong with a new car as long as the value proposition corresponds to the price, but there is everything wrong with a car like that costing over R200k, because there is simply no R200k value in it.

Yeah I agree. Many people like their cars new. I'm one of them. Also, retail pricing is subjecting. Some dealers will prob offer "specials" and knock-off a good 20k from that price tag to make it competitive.
I agree with you on this one. For the last 15 odd years all the vehicles I have purchased was new with a good warranty and service plan. When I got my Hyundai Creta November 2019, they had it for R35K less, plus
I got an excellent trade-in price for my Elantra 1.8 GLS auto. It was seven years old but only 105 000 km on the clock. Only serviced by the dealer under their service plan, except for the last one, which I had to pay myself.

To be honest, there's a lot of "new" cars from Suzuki and possibly the Chinese that would fare better in an accident than a 3-yr old Ford or Toyota. Especially since many are coming with a few airbags, that your older cars didn't have as they weren't in the "luxury" category. ESP and ABS are also par for the course now on small cars.
Reply meant for @marvelguy heh.

Huh?

I have sat in a Suzuki S-Presso before and the build quality is embarrassing.

That car is also kak under windy conditions.

My issue isn't with people buying brand new cars. My issue is with people buying these unsafe kak cars and these manufacturers charging so much for it.

Developing countries have become a dumping ground for these unsafe vehicles. We deserve better and the Kwid isn't cheap.

Don't compare the likes of a Haval to these entry level dodgy tin cans that Renault & Suzuki sell.

It's an insult to Chinese manufacturers.

A "3 year old" Ford Fiesta is much safer than a Suzuki Celerio or S-Presso.

Even an Etios scored higher for safety.

You are forgetting that the structure of a car and crumple zones play a role in passenger safety.

I retract my "dom" comment

I substitute dom for : naive /ill informed/ignorant

I agree a "3 year old" Fiesta is much safer as it normally packs up by then and can't go anywhere.

Yeah, there's some real crap that's being built in India for developing countries.

Heck it's not even just the +-R200k cars that are badly built, a 5 year old Toyota Etios scores more stars than an Indian-built Kia Seltos priced at R409k.
