Most popular ADSL ISPs among SA’s online pirates

I have not used Afrihost's uncapped products, but I had a spin at their capped products, and they ran like a well oiled machine :)

How does Afrihost's uncapped stack against the others? In terms of quality? Do they throttle after the user hits a certain amount of data usage or do they shape according to the load on their network?

TelkomInternet foot flat from 00:01 to 06:59 FTW!

This month, we have used 40GB of our 50GB cap so far. In addition, we have used 15GB of zero rated data like social media during office hours and 175GB of free night owl foot flat data.

It rocks!

I'm surprised that 2% of people have fibre.

What's the number of satellite subscribers who also use VOD?

Obviously ADSL would be much higher, it would be cheaper to buy the movie than use MTN

So if you subscribe to local PayTV, why do you pirate as well? Can't it be one or the other?

Content, its as simple as that.

While dstv now simulcasts some content, the majority of shows and movies are weeks behind, so with a few clicks of the mouse you can have all the movies, series when there released, while still having the ability to turn to dstv for hard to find shows , or when there is nothing els to watch.

Lets not forget Sports aswell.

Not surprising that only 50% of a generally technical literate sample purchase media. They are pirates after all

Would like to see this article in 6 months again since some of the isps listed here are clamping down on p2p protocol or rendering protocols useless via shaping/throttling. Also, do articles like these not put the isps in a bad light with authorities?

On a side note, I'm damn well surprised to see openweb on that list. Knowing of all the issues first hand, I'm surprised that any one can "pirate" using them.

I used to use their business uncapped 40mbps package. Used around 2.5TB per month and never experienced any throttling or shaping. They also have a handy tool where you can prioritize your own line if you want to shape p2p etc for example during business hours. Not sure about normal home uncapped though, haven't used a home account for ages. I've definitely had the most luck thus far with Afrihost and Mweb in terms of no shaping/throttling

what is the point in all these piracy articles popping up on mybroadband of late?

Openweb my foot. Who is managing to do any form of P2P on them and how ??? :wtf:
