Biggest phone brands in South Africa from 1994 to 2024

Over the past three decades, mobile phone sales in South Africa have been led by a range of brands from various countries.

Mobile network technology has advanced greatly since 1994, when commercial cellular services debuted in South Africa, as have the devices that provide access to this connectivity.

Not an Apple in sight! 😂🤣😂
It's not surprising. The masses cannot afford Apple. That said, Blackberry would probably still be popular if it wasn't for the iPhone and other brands copying the concept.

Had a 5110 and 3310. My 6680 still works and I'm still using my N8. There hasn't been proper competition since Nokia where you could say this one blows everything else away.

From the list, I had a 6610 (but the i model, which included a built-in camera), and right after that, the 6600.

Had a 6110 ... , was not bad
First phone I ever got was back was at the start of 1999 was an alcatel, some or other thing, it had a rubber grip on the sides with a clear case. In 25 odd years I have only ever had ONE contract phone, which was the 6100, I have since got every phone secondhand or cash.

6100 which was my favorite of all nokia phones...worse was the ngage.....second maybe the 6680 still have that lying around....

Best phone I ever had
