motherboard doesn't detect anything

Alright I recently began building a computer. I got all the parts, everything. It all should work, it all worked before on different computers.

Here's what happened: It doesn't read my hard drives or my cd-rom. I've tried plugging and unplugging, I've tried different cables.

When I boot the comp says, Error: Drive A: Failure

then it asks if I want to boot(which says to insert media into the drive) or if I want to go into setup.

So can anyone help me? Is it a problem with my ide(if so then I have two motherboards that have the same problem), or is it a problem with the configuration?

You sure you've got the cables plugged in correctly? (As in, red stripe to pin 1)

Welcome to MyADSL.

sounds like you have your BIOS set up to boot only from the Floppy (A) Drive and not from Hard Disk (C) Drive.

Go in to setup and look for something called "Boot Order". Change it to boot from HDD (C) first.

also make sure the drives are detected correctly by the BIOS. some old BIOS'es cannot see large hard disks. in which case, a BIO upgrade might resolve your problem.

Check that you don't have the hard drives both set to master or both to slave.

Try starting with 1 drive attached, also enter the BIOS and set your hard drive to Auto.
