Hi fellow Defy users

Im getting my phone back soon, after replacing my cracked screen (dropped from a 2 story balcony, it still works perfect, just screen cracked)..

anyways... Im on stock 2.2 system from motorola update, im wanting to rom to something better and faster like a gingerbread rom..

Now i have read up on modding ect, but im nervous to do all the things mentioned, and most of all scared i do sumthing wrong and loose everything or cant switch phone back on or something along those lines and wouldnt know how to get it back to the way it is now..

Can sum1 guide me through a very detailed (guide for changing roms for dummies) kind of thing, so i can give it a bash, and also what rom to use ect..

Iv read about different roms, sum not stable and sum once on the phone peopl cant get network signal ect, so i would also like to use a tried and tested 1.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

is there a available free version of the rom manager, or a similar rom manager app that is free?

also how can i tell which 1 is best for me/definitely works fine, if sum1 has a tried and tested 1 il feel better about it.

Thanks for the reply

Yes. ROM Manager is free which offers the functionality you will need to flash a custom ROM. ROM Manager Premium offers additional functionality which I am not going to drill into here.

I'm using WhiteRabbit 1.6 and it is pretty good. Fast and stable.

Verify that your downloaded file is undamaged ( they usually give hashes to confirm )

did you get a confirmed root? And have you put CWM on it yet?

CWM? dont have that i think? what the full name?

the full error msg i get is this:

-Install from sdcard
..Finding update package...
Opening update package..
Verifying update package...
..................................................
.............................................
E:Failed to verify whole-file signature
E: Signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

The only known root application i got is gingerbreak. if that is even right. I have superuser rights.. if this helps anything

Steps:

Root phone
Install Clockworkrecovery
Reboot into recovery

Thanks Greenbean32 2nd init solved the recovery rom problem..

Digging it, if any1 has any other roms that are good let me know, well any that they are currently using and think are better.
