Ok, I have 2 main issues with my phone and the 3G network.

Firstly, Im just trying to get the free preview videos on Vodafone Live to see what it looks like and if its worth it. Even in a 3G coverage area it just wont work. When I get to the "View now" button/page it starts connecting and immediately says "Connection Lost". What is the reason? (I checked on 4me and my 3G video service is active) One of the phones main features is progressive multimedia downloading and I dont want to pay R10 to download a silly video clip and it then doesnt work....

Secondly, using the supplied software and cable, I can connect with my laptop via the phone to a "Vodacom GPRS" connection. This connection is specified as 230.4Kbps (obviously the speed from pc to phone). How can I connect via 3G instead and get the full 384Kbps? Is it even possible with this phone? (It is definitely a 3G phone)

Some other things.. the vlive! stuff didnt work out the box. I had to change the internet profile to the vodacom one (with apn=internet). Still havent managed to get the vlive apn to work. Not sure how OR it doesnt work at all. The VLive profile just does not work. So Im not so sure now if the Vodafone Live portal is still free (if Im connecting from the internet apn since its the only way) obviously, as mentioned above, I do get to the portal ok but the reason for the video not working *might* be this apn thingey

Finally, this phone doesnt seem to do cell broadcast..so its a bit tricky to know if im in a 3G area since the icon comes on even when the 3G isnt so lekker. What are the settings for "Info Services" to enable Cell broadcast? ie. what channel(s)

Yet to test video calling but I expect that to work rather well :D

* dont kill me for not searching the forum, I did and it doesnt like 3 letter (v3x) searches.....

Thanks for any help

I also have a motorola v3x, My vodafone live works 100%. I got the phone, checked most of the features the 1st day i got it.. Started Vodafone Live, checked free previews tv. and i lauched it.. It worked 1st time. Just some tv adds and previews of stuff that you can watch on Vodacom's Vodafone live TV. Your APN is fine.. It connects to the internet.. If your area has 3g, It will connect at that speeds. if you area only support GPRS. It will only run at that speed. Do a speedtest at http://www.telkom.co.za/minisites/dsl/speed1.html . If you get under 70kbps your using GPRS. If u get over 100kbps your on 3g. (be warned that the speed test does chow on 512kb of data)

ok fine, tested 115Kbps but still the connection is rated as 230.4Kbps so I cant see it going close to the theoretical 384Kbps...if I wanted to

Can you post your vlive profile settings please or pm them to me so I can try that for the Mobile TV thingey

did you get cell broadcast going?

Did you buy this a Vlive phone, out-of-the-box, so to speak?

If so, I'm worried that your settings did not come preloaded.

Currently there is no Cell Broadcast on 3G.

Best bet to see if you're on 3G or not, is to look at the connection icon on the phone. They normally will indicate 2G/3G.

You can typically set the connection speed between PC and modem in the modem properties, but it does not seem to affect actual throughput.

Ok so the 230 figure is unrelated to the 3G max speed? if so, good.

yes, the phone is a fully branded Vlive v3x as in the one you get with a contract (except im using a prepaid sim but thats irrelevant)

I meant the cell broadcast that says "Sandton-3" or "Hatfield 3G/HSDPA enabled"

Im using the icon as the indicator but a signal strength meter would be nice. Thats maybe asking a bit much though :)

Regarding the settings, my vodacom profile works fine but when I change the APN from internet to vlive nothing works. I get 403's on the phone and Network not available. Is there some form of access control on vlive (it might be that my sim isnt active on the vlive apn whereas the contract sim is..is this maybe the problem?)

Maybe you need to enter a proxy?

The cell broadcast you refer to is the 2G one. Your phone should support this.

well the solution was to get my SIM activated for vodafone live. Now it works. Cant see how they expect us to pay such a premium for it though. Would definitely pay the R5-R10 for streaming a live event such as a cricket one day or something like that :)

Should the vlive apn allow general WAP/GRPS/3G internet browsing on the phone? or do I need to switch back to the regular internet setup for that? (as far is I remember, vlive doesnt give me internet access so I need to switch the whole time..)

is there any use for vlive assuming all you want to pay for is data and purely data?
