What would the benefit be using a AC-LITE as a first hop vs a UAP-AC-M?

200 bucks cheaper?

Though I think perhaps the M might give you better range...

Functionality is the same.

For the record, I have a lite and an M, wired into different switches, at opposite ends of the house, and another m mounted in the cottage window with failover uplinks configured, so if one of the switches dies, I still have two functioning APs as the cottage M can uplink to either the lounge M or the bedroom Lite.

I noticed that since my last controller update, I had to select "allow meshing to another access point" in order to allow this to happen...
Not sure if you saw this so thought I'd share in case ;)

I am not sure if you can use a "lite" unit as the first hop. Please check the UBNT website for those specifics.
I overheard that meshing with UAC-LITE/PRO do not work properly, people advised to use Ethernet cables for all access points, but you can try.

Works fine at my side. The cottage AP is mesh-only, and the tenants are very happy.

Works perfectly with 1 AC Lite and 1 AC LR

After battling for nearly 4 hours to pull a cable through different conduits, I had no choice.

Can confirm that the AP Lite will use a wireless uplink - one of my switches died, the mesh just did its thing with no problems on the wifi :D
