I'm going to assume that you are proud of your individuality and will continue to rate you movies out of 5 instead of out of 10 like the rest of the thread/previous thread? Is this assumption correct?

Plenty of respected movie critics use a 5 star rating system, so not really that unique.

I do prefer the 5 star rating style. It narrows down the scale and leaves no room for confusion. I hope that is ok with everyone. If it's not I can go the ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ route and create mass confusion like:

Not a huge Bollywood fan but came across a Making of...and just had to watch this one. Movie is FAN. Nice script. Great performances. But its the visual effects tech that actually CAN'T BE SEEN that blew me away. Have a look at this MAKING OF. Its the most revolutionary visual effects work since the Matrix. But what amazed me was the fact that you don't notice its vfx at all. I couldn't believe that almost every shot in the movie needed rotoscoping !!! Absolutely incredible

And plenty of forumites imagine themselves to be respected movie critics.
And I am sure most are (in their own respective rights).
If a review is just a personal opinion wouldn't that make us all experts?
Food for thought :)

Can you give me a solid reason why a scale out of 10 is better/worse than one out of 5?

As mentioned before a scale out of 5 narrows it down considerably more than a scale of 10. As an example:
2 out of 5 would be mediocre at best. Now 5-6 out of 10 would mean about the same but u have 2 values instead of 1. A rating system of 10 isn't better or worse it's just a little too broad for my tastes

What is your equivalent of 6.5/10

Because there is nothing scientific about movies reviews that 6.5/10, what insight does 6.5/10 give you that 3/5 or 3.5/5 doesn't give you? If you really think your opinion can be quantified to that precision why not advocate a score out of 100 or a percentage?

All good, down to personal preference of how you like to review things, to call one "better" than the other beyond personal preference is just silly.

lol that's your personal opinion now isn't it

No it isn't. I like buildings but I have no real knowledge of architecture, so the opinion of an architecture critic has more expertise than mine. That's what distinguishes an amateur and an expert. Having an opinion without expertise makes us amateurs, and that's fine.
