The Shallows - 7.5/10. Stunningly photographed with nail biting tension. Loses credibility toward the end but Blake Lively scores a winner. First worthy successor to Jaws.

Nerve (2016) - 5/10

Started off well and then half way took a tumble. Had potential.

Westworld (1973) 6/10

I remember loving this when I first saw it probably more than 20 years ago, but although it's still a decent watch, the best bit was the technology which gave a good laugh. It all seemed a bit rushed and rather over acted too.

The Girl on the Train (2016)

Was interesting initially, butt when everything was concluded it turned out to be one big self gratifying wankfest. 5/10

Also enjoyed The Shallows much more than I was expecting to.

Have you seen The Reef (early 2010s)?

Kicks (2016) - 6.5/10

Almost a very good movie...has some good moments but the direction is a bit fiddley. Cast does very good work and the music is great (hip-hop, rap).

I've watched it 4 times and I love it more and more each time. Great performances. Awesome cast. Love the camera work. Top notch directing. Only thing I didn't like was Colin Farrell trying to overact his role. Wasn't natural at all. Jamie Foxx on the other hand was brilliant.

Yet you give it full marks?

Actually never heard of it. Will try to watch.
Another notable entry in Open Water.

Speaking of oldies just finished:

Vertical Limit - 6.5/10. A bit daft but has some heart stopping stunts and action.

The Mule (2014) 7/10

Aussie movie; interesting premise. "A first time drug mule is caught by law enforcement." Humour & intrigue. Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith) is a character of note.

Independance Day: Resurgence (2016) 7/10

I don't get the hate for this movie, it could only go one way and indeed it played out in the only way it could. But with a few laughs and lots of big bangs it was quite fun. Good Sunday movie.

I think that people were a bit miffed that it was a schitter copy of the first one. Kind of. Literally a nothing movie. Watched it a few days ago. I would give it a 5

To be fair, all of these blockbuster type movies are 'nothing movies' where we already know what's going to happen. It's just how you get there that's the fun. Anyhoo, I thought this was better than the first one.

Just watched this. Sleeper hit of the year. Brilliantly told and a true gem. A stunningly unique film. Viggo Mortensen shines. I absolutely recommend this one to everyone. Funny, sad, heartwarming, witty and just downright spot on. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ life filled stars from me on this one. This one will take u on a truly unexpected journey you won't easily forget

My daughter was watching the first one on Friday when I got home, so I sat and watched some of it with her. Damn, that movie was a lot better in my memory than seeing it again.

But I agree with you, the new one was really decent. I think people are pissed of because Will Smith isn't in it.
