The Magnificent Seven 7.5

Without giving too much away, this was a perfect western up to the last quarter when it lost the plot.

Oh, and if you want to attempt to film the tension of a showdown between gunslingers take some lessons from TGTBATU finale.

Nevertheless a worthy addition to the genre, perhaps the best since Silverado and Unforgiven.

Without giving too much away?!

Baddies harass townfolk
Lone town person asks maverick goodies for help
Goodies agree to help at a price
Baddies try their luck and goodies piss them off
Goodies now prepare for final baddie onlaught
Goodies win!

Sing Street - 7.5/10. New film from Once director John Carney, very similar in tone. Feel-good musical about a group of kids in 1986 Ireland who form a band (of undefined genre). Familiar stuff but not generic, with plenty of energy and great songs.

I don't know how people endure musicals.
That doesn't sound too bad because of the history etc. but still...

Well, these aren't like Mary Poppins musicals, the songs are modern, well written and integrated into the story. I don't mind musicals if the songwriting is up to scratch. Hedwig and the Angry Inch was fantastic, and The Commitments, Once, Pitch Perfect, Amy, Frozen, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend... Hm, now I think of it I do like musicals.

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016) 6.5/10

Not too bad of a horror actually. To the point & mostly interesting. Not see the first one but reviews claim the sequel is the better of the two.

Nothing wrong with watching a no-brainer now and again.

Musicals are annoying! The only one I enjoyed was Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Free State of Jones - 7/10.

Pretty good film. McConaughey puts in a strong performance, as usual. Provides a slightly different perspective of how stupid, evil and unnecessary the US civil war was, specifically with regards to Southerners that wanted no part in fighting and dying to protect an evil institution.
