The Big Sleep (1946) 8.5/10

The mystery that brings the characters together fades into the background as the cast have an enthusiastic go at a clever script (Raymond Chandler and William Faulkner have writing credits). A very fun movie.

Having watched this relatively recently I'll vouch for this. Excellent mystery element & (as always) Humphrey Bogart brings a charisma to the screen.

I saw The Long Goodbye (1973) with Elliot Gould a while ago - it's an excellent adaptation, though some purists hate it. Altman, who directed MASH (1970) also starring Gould, creates a Philip Marlowe that is more of a bemused outsider than a heroic knight-errant.

Thursday (1998) 7/10

Highly entertaining black comedy thriller. Likeable cast with a direct premise. Has Tarantino undertones.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon (2021) 6.5/10

The Batman in a 70's martial arts homage. Far out, man.

The Outpost (2020) 7.5/10. Excellent battle scenes up there with Black Hawk Down.

Locked Down (2021) 6/10

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Anne Hathaway are very good in this otherwise clumsy comedy-drama set in COVID times.

White Men Can't Jump (1992) 7/10

First time watch. Likeable story, excellent chemistry between Snipes & Harrelson. Just all round great entertainment.

Locked Down (2021) 5.5/10

Had potential due to the relevancy of the premise but jeez does it waffle on & on, the pacing is really poor. Good cast aside the playout is a turn off.

The Serpent.

Not going to rate it, it's just too utterly crap.

Hunter Hunter 7/10. Effective thriller that builds to a genuine cinematic wtf.

Nomadland - 8/10. I loved the music and the cinematography, and Frances McDormand, but nothing much really happens
