Top 5 of '22 is basically Everything Everywhere All at Once x4 for me. I'll throw in Batman in 5th spot to be generous.

I've been trying to watch Elvis for two days now and Tom Hanks's voice irritates me so much I keep on having to stop the movie. I don't know WTF he was thinking. I love the music and I think Austin Butler plays a great Elvis, but I'm not sure I like the movie.

Hmm, that’s cos that’s how the real Colonel Parker sounds? Kinda.
Tom Hanks is a master at his craft & I think captured the Colonel’s mannerisms & likeness spot on.

I recently watched the ‘79 Elvis film with Kurt Russel & while it was fairly good the Colonel in that film was half baked.

I’m glad you thought Austin Butler was a great Elvis, come award season I really expect him to rack up some acclaim.

PS: I’m waiting for more Elvis reviews in this thread.

PPS: I’m a recent Elvis convert but did lots of research on the person & his music.

The only movie I've really enjoyed in 2022 was Batman. I found out that someone I know from the UK is on the credits for special effects.

I didn't like Everything at all. Sorry, I just didn't. Haven't yet seen Top Gun but I'm keen on it. Kimi was decent. There's a few more I want to see. Hustle, Marcel the Shell, Nope.

Agree with Batman being the best of '22, and by quite a margin too.

Top Gun, yup, 'tho I also have my eye on Bullet Train, Miller's Three Thousand Years of Longing, and Zemeckis' Pinocchio.

We're not hearing the same thing, I can only suppose, because here he sounds like he has a normal American twang with a foreign overtone, while in the movie Hanks twists the accent so bad he might as well play a guy who is still learning English. Wouldn't know about the rest, but I never queried his ability - merely his choice to sound like a cartoon villain. Well, it's definitely out of my Top 5, anyway, despite how much I like the music. I'll just watch the songs on YouTube.

Thirteen Lives (2022) 7/10

Gripping biographical watch of the Thailand cave rescue. A heartfelt watch of communities & people coming together, perseverance & strength. Underwater scenes were top notch.
Enjoyed it and it's gripping without much talking and no over dramatization. Score is also good.

Well pulled off

I'm not quoting this to keep arguing with you, just found this now when I Googled about his accent.

"When it comes to the accent employed by Hanks in the film, Nash, a music journalist who wrote The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley, is telling Variety that it is inaccurate. After being asked if the manager's voice really sounded like that of Hanks, Nash said, "No." Read Nash's quote regarding Hank's accent in Elvis below:

"No. It was more American, more rural. And he had what sounded like a slight lisp or speech impediment. Turns out he didn’t have an impediment — he was just trying to wrap a Dutch tongue around the English language, Southern-style. It sounded like a weird (Southern) regional dialect, and you would know it was Dutch only by listening for certain consonants. But Baz wanted to make him seem more 'other.' Or as Baz told me in an interview, 'I thought it was very important that Tom present the audience with a strangeness, a sort of ‘What is going on with this guy?’

Prey (2022) - 7.5/10

This was far better than it had any right to be. Beautifully shot, really stunning to look at. Amber Midthunder did a really good job (also couldn't shake the similarity to Audrey Plaza).

Good movie, I'm quite surprised how much I enjoyed it.

You mean del Toro's Pinocchio?

Wait there's also a Zemeckis Pinocchio coming this year? What the hell

Yup.

Oh, I’m watching both… I mean, that’s the voices of Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchette, Christopher Walz and Tim Blake Nelson in Guillermo’s version.

Rogue Agent (2022) 6/10

Slightly underwhelming true life thriller. Psychological manipulation in full force. A bit on the slow side, source material was not done full justice.

Okay, finished Prey (2022) and it's an easy 8/10. Great cast, good story, beautiful setting and lots of bad-ass action.
+1, watched last night. Just wondering why no-one is wondering about the name. Predator franchise using the Prey game franchise name. I am still hoping there will a future movie of the game Prey.
Well, the first Prey game also had an Indian as the protagonist. So there's that.
Or maybe they should've called it "Predator: Prey"

Because prey was good enough? Have you seen all the predator titles as to date?

Besides prey is also more fitting.

Because typically he is hunting people. Here she's hunting him, so the predator becomes the prey.
