Old Henry (2021) 7.5/10

Surprisingly good Western. Very well played out & structured. Great reveal at the end. Tim Blake Nelson was absolutely on point.

We need more "modern" Westerns like this.
Old Henry - 7.5

Gritty western, with a superb performance from Tim Blake Nelson.

I would have preferred it if the kid had been shot dead 5 minutes into the movie.

Great to hear. Kept this as my 'Sunday Night' movie for later tonight.

Not sure if this belongs here but I just watched Chapelle's Closer on Netflix - 5/10

I love hearing this dude talk but as a standup show it wasn't great.
The guy isn't funny. Or particularly fresh. Just goes for knee-jerk schit. Was very weak standup.

I think he's amazing, definitely Top 5 all time comedians. I just think this was not funny. It's the same sht from previous specials packaged into a pity fest.

At least when Carlin got preachy he made sure it was entertaining and diverse in topic.

I know this is off topic but I must say, I haven't seen much of his other stuff and am basing my previous comment purely on the Netflix special.

On topic: Old Henry downloaded and ready to go!

No time to die - 8/10, a tad long but really enjoyed it. Imax is expensive but for the quality I will pay it for blockbusters any idea, can't wait for the new top gun!!!

No Time To Die - 6/10
Not bad, but not great either. Had it's moments. The tone was not very James Bond for me. Nothing really stands out. And the theme song is boring AF. Can't for the life of me remember it.

Star Wars - Rise of Skywalker 6.5/10

Dunno, it was star wars but ended up being very Meh. Like they where trying too hard. Too many convenient plot holes, breaking their own rules, etc. Not that I am sorry I watched it but where the origonal where great it seems to be settling deep into average territory. As a Brandon Sanderson fan I kind of like how he says good books are defined by their adherence to their own magic rule system. If they start breaking their own rules readers notice and get angry. Magic systems have to have rules, and stick to them, and have both strengths and weaknesses. I will elaborate on the "broken rules" I hated in a spoiler I guess:

1. Light speed skipping. A main feature of the previous movie was the lady general using light speed to break apart the big ship sacrificing herself.
A) that annoyed me as then just about any minor junk ship with a light speed capable drive could take out the biggest star destroyer, so why now suddenly, and never again. Why can't the Rebellion kit out a few fighters with droids or remote controls to just light speed into the enemy and destroy them?
b) Secondly when they skipped repeatedly into lightspeed they always ended up on what was clearly a planet, with space being so vast that is unlikely and stupid. Also if lightspeed on a ship crashes apart enemy ships why could they suddenly safely lightspeed though solid objects? It was a visually appealing scene but just terrible at breaking their own rules and insulting the audience.
2. The force could never magically heal anyone. Not even Yoda had that power. Now suddenly Rey who is barely trained can heal? Whatever.
3. Palpatine's lightning that can disable only specific enemy ships that he can't even see with precise targeting around his own armada was a stretch, and then 2 seconds later he can't bend his lightning around a lightsaber or two. Stupid.
4. Ben's sudden ability to bring Rey back to life, again with what, healing? Life transfer? No clear explanation and unnecessary plot twist.
5. I could go on but you get the idea. They change their own rules so often, or have unexplained new abilities that are very temporary and only help them get out of a writing hole they got themselves into that its just dumb.

Then not a magic rule break but her claiming the name skywalker at the end was just bad. She is a Palpatine. You can't change your genetics, and if she wants to remain on the good side then how will others feel later when they find out who she really is. The Jedi are supposed to rely on honesty, so own your name, and show by your deeds which side you are on. That whole nostalgic final scene at Luke's could have been left out.

Lay the Favorite (2012) 5/10

Boring half-baked story. Lots of wasted potential. The only real selling point in seeing Rebecca Hall in a very easy on the eye nature.

Ida Red (2021) 6.5/10

Pretty decent crime drama, a fair deal better than I've seen from any Saban Films film. Good storyline & structure.
