Movie Mini-Review Thread - Part IV

I watched Red Heat again, after many, many years. Last time I had seen it was on VHS.

The movie was good. Good dialog. Good action scenes. Short and concise. Good comic skits and witticisms - such as "Do you know Miranda? Never hear of the b1tch". Over the top action. Well paced. Nothing to add or remove. The shots were also framed well.

Walter Hill. He also made the 48 Hours films which I also own in digital format. They're all excellent and can be re-watched many times.

For some reason I can't watch 90% of the Netflix or Showmax stuff, but these 1980s and 1990s films are highly watchable. Heck anything before that is also excellent. Must be that chaff gets through these days or maybe modern audiences don't appreciate the way these old films were made.

Schwarzenegger was good in this film and was also good obviously in The Predator. I see there is another kuk film being promoted on MyBB - Predator Killer of Killers. No, we don't watch Predator for the "predator" but for the original films and likely this new one will be just as kuk as all the reboots. The Danny Glover version was not too bad.

On that topic a good film to look out for is Megan 2. Megan was that rare film which had that 80s vibe. No wokeness and pure real life coarseness.

The Amateur 6/10

The plot was as thin as ice but a nice Sunday watch. Hitman vibes and the lady lead at the end looked similar to Diana Burnwood, however the back story was very weak. Nice characters though and wonder if they going to continue the hacker / killer vibes in sequels. The Pool Scene was a typical Hitman "accident" kill. Would be nice if the next movie starts with a location and a mission briefing.

Ex Machina (2014)

I used to really dislike the last 15 minutes but it's grown on me with this rewatch. Either way - this has always been a rewatchable movie for me.

Really battled with Deep Cover (2025) 4.5 / 10
Orlando Bloom was too over the top for me.

I enjoyed it ... will give it 5/10
F D Bloodlines ... was meh and felt like it should have been a longer watch 5.5/10
The Amateur ... my type of movie although this one was missing something ... 6/10 ... hoping for more

....and that was my Sunday evening ;)

Final Destination Bloodlines (2025) 6/10. Not a bad addition to the franchise but the plot was wafer thin. Then again, we don't watch it for the plot but the weird/freaky deaths. Good weekend watch.
