Movie ticket price hikes in South Africa

Ster-Kinekor and Nu Metro have increased movie ticket prices.

A 3D movie at one of Ster-Kinekor’s top-tier cinemas went from R97 to R98, while Nu Metro’s prices went from R95 to R100.

Other than tickets for a Nu Metro 4DX movie, the prices at all other cinemas were adjusted.

And the extortionate price of the snacks..?

Edit: Bah, Ninja beat me to it..

As a person who usually goes to movies alone, I'm amazed when I see families buy popcorn, chocolates and other stuff for each kid. Like goddamn, just viewing that makes my wallet cry.

Did you guys hear, the robbed a movie theater of about R20 000... reports are the stole a large popcorn, small slush and a packet of whispers...

I can't remember when last I went to The movies, probably 20 years and counting.

That's me, it's also the reason my kids only see one or two movies a year in the cinema. It's just way to expensive.

Nu metro was R140 for Deadpool 2in 2D. Due to that I went 15km out of my way to watch at Ster Kinekor for R70.

Prices are only worth as it's a social thing, but if it were a lot cheaper I would go a lot more often, rather than the once every 2/3 months, if they increase more again I will probably not watch anything at all.

I want to go watch Deadpool 2 at Numetro, they only have it in VIP 2D for R140, or 4DX for R175. Tsek!!!

VIP is the only way I will watch movies at the cinema now, yes its *** expensive. I just cant stand being bunched into a packed cinema with people making noise, playing on their phones, eating so loudly you can hear them from 6 rows away, oh and kicking the back of your chair!

I just realised something. I thought Vitality offered one tickets at half price? Why then did my latest outing to Prestige at the Grove costs me R213 for two people? Did they change the terms & conditions for Vitality discount? (Yes I know it's a bit off-topic to the op)

What do you get with VIP? Besides big seats and big price.

Well, reclining lazy-boy chairs and a cinema with what feels like only a handful of people.
(If you're talking about Prestige etc.)

They must have some awesomely long legs to kick your chair from that far away.
