Moving ADSL line back to Telkom from Axxess.

So currently I have a 4mbps premium bundle with Axxess but now I want to change to Telkom's R799 pm 10mbps package.

After speaking to Telkom though they told me that since Axxess is managing the line there would be a week of downtime. They said Axxess would have to release the line for holding or something like that. And than only then we'll be able to get the new package.

Now my question is, is there anyway of avoiding this week of downtime? I work from home so going a week without internet is definitely a no go.

I was wondering what exactly it would mean when the ISP releases the line. Would it just stop working at all during that week? Or would I still be able to use the internet if I'm willing to use a capped account for a week or something like that?

Its just red tape these clowns are drumming up, there was never a problem in the past, now this was created to add frustration...good luck, ask your neighbor get a sim with data, use your phone as a hotspot...Good luck

It should almost be seamless, the transfer from Axxess to Telkom. Tehn again, you will be dealing with Telkom as ISP, so they might screw it up for you. Once Axxess releases the line, Telkom needs to pick it up, and that could be a delay.

But why don't you stay with Axxess and get their 10mbps Premium Uncapped package for R799? I was on it till a month ago when I went fibre. Was quite happy with it for more than 2 years. Doing this you will not have any downtime and the switch to 10mbps will be as seamless as rebooting your router.

Well the main reason being that with Axxess the R799 only includes Line rental + data connection whereas with Telkom it includes voice line + line rental + data connection. My parents are on the Telkom R799 package and I was really impressed by it.

But I guess Axxess premium home would be better than Telkom's normal 10mb. I think I'll give Axxess' 10mb a try and see.

Telkom just talked you out of signing up with them, and instead, helped Axxess upsell a customer who was on the verge of churning to them! Only in SA :p

Wow! Someone who actually has seen the benefit of having a fixed line telephone!

Why did you move you line to Axxess in the first place? You could have kept the line and the line rental with Telkom and simply signed up with Axxess for the ISP service ------

Have you tried to plug a phone into the phone socket on the filter? Maybe you get dial tone anyway?

Well I don't really see any benefit of a phone line. But you have to have one to get ADSL so that Telkom can at least pretend they are useful.

So with Axxess it's really R799 + R170 because you still have to pay the phone line anyway. Whereas if you go all with Telkom it's R799 flat.

Still have the outstanding question.

The line terminates on a filter. Plug a handset into the line filter ( phone socket) and see if you have dial tone.

Actually, without Telkom/OpenServe, you would NOT have ADSL at all! OpenServe is the Access Service Provider for ADSL. No other ISP in the country has ever been allowed to provide ADSL infrastructure.

Stupid question, but why dont u just stay with Axxess and go for their 10mbps line with 200 or 400 gig data bundle
200gig costs me R545 / month
Telkom does not have roll-over
