Moving from WebAfrica to Telkom

I am considering moving my ADSL line back to Telkom and getting a HomeUnlimited (UnlimitedHome) package from them. What is the best way to go about it?

Should I apply with Telkom and then cancel with WebAfrica or vice versa? I don't mind downtime but obviously I'd like to keep it to a minimal.

Also if I cancel with WebAfrica and my line goes to the holding pool, what procedure do I need to follow to get Telkom to fish it out of the pool quickly?

Just did this last month from Afrihost.

You basically cancel with your isp (give them the required notice), if they are managing the line, then instruct them not to cancel the line but to move it to the holding pool.

You should receive a sms message once the line is moved to the holding pool (end of the month). Once there, contact telkom and tell them to activate service and line is in the holding pool.

I chose the self install as no need to pay installation on something that is already working.

Agent gave me my new username and password for the modem..... line was active in 24 hours.

Downtime - 1 day

NOT my experience at all
We already have a Telkom land line / ADSL line as well as Telkom mail box and had a Telkom ISP account
For maybe ten or twelve years already

Ended up going to the Telkom Direct shop FOUR times to register for Home Unlimited upgrade
Took more than two weeks to be upgraded
We asked that the email account not be changed.

Guess what
The information we received as to the new details had a CHANGED email
The log in details did not agree with what was already on the system
AND
For some or other reason the ADSL line is reset EVERY NIGHT ( NEVER happened before )
I am not even sure we are getting the full FOUR mb line speed ( which we have had before )

It seems that with Telkom once stuff is WORKING -- DO NOT change or fiddle !!!!!!!

That's good to hear.

Hopefully I'll have a similar experience.

I'm planning on getting the ball rolling at end of this month.

I moved from Crystal Web to Telkom, but my line was already with Telkom. It makes things easier that way.

Performance is also pretty good.

There it is. I have always advocated that the best ADSL option is to always leave the basic line (ASP) with the organization that provides it, i.e. Telkom now OpenServe. Responsibilities are clear and you know who to report faults to when they occur.

Then choose your ISP.

Did this a few weeks ago as well.

Simplest is to cancel with your ISP and then the line will either be moved immediately or end of the month.

Wait for that confirmation and then call up Telkom.

According to WebAfrica's Client Area, my ADSL line is cancelled with them as of today 1st Dec. I haven't received any SMS from Telkom to say my line is in the holding pool and my ADSL is currently still working, so my question is where is my line and who is going to bill me since I'm in limbo right now?

How long did it take before you got the confirmation SMS that your line is in the holding pool? WebAfrica shows the line as cancelled, and it's not on my Telkom profile but it's still active.

Finally got HomeUnlimited activated, Telkom only sent the holding pool SMS on 5 Dec. My line speed wasn't increased to 10Mbps as of yesterday but my internet account was already active.
