Moving into the Cyber Security field - is this a good first course?

Hiya all

I'm a sys devs manager, small team. Every now and again I do a little dev work where needed...but not nearly as much dev as I used to do. I feel that there is a need to shift things a bit in my career path and move into cyber security - have been interested in it for quite some time.

Our company currently outsources everything, but I eventually want to start bringing in the day to day stuff like data security, securing our systems, networks, software etc etc (can leave the specialist things out sourced as is for now, like pen testing etc - but my greater plan is to do that ourselves one day too).

I found a course called Proactive Network Defense and it looks like a good start for me to get an overall understanding of cyber security...seems like a solid base to start with.

Anyone got suggestions on other courses to start with, or ones they think could be better that I should rather start with?

comptia security + course would be my go to,

Cool, thanks busy taking a look. You recon this is a course I need in class training for, or can I do it self-study (see it's a 5 day course)?

EDIT: I see these guys offer a "security" bundle. Looks like course material for 5 CompTIA security courses...would then just have to pay for each exam...

id be happy with the vanilla one, the security + on its own,
but the bundle they offer is when you want to work for the NSA or something similar....

id start with the security +, and then see how deep you want to go.....
I mean CEH is what Snowden trained in, and that leads to its own issues.....

Cool, thanks again. :)

I see the below are prerequisites though from CompTIA...and coming from a dev background, I dont have extensive knowledge in a lot of it...sure it's not needed, but hopefully it wont go over my head?

None. CompTIA recommends at least two years of experience in IT administration (with a security focus) and the Network+ credential before taking the Security+ exam.

I've read CEH is not worth perusing, although I know nothing about that cert
