MPAA shuts torrent services, goes after online pirates

They will never stop piracy, don't know how long it will take them to realize this. Grab these guys now, but while they are working on it, hundreds more are busy shooting up right now. Besides, these guys will be arrested, they will not be able to millions of dollars. They will go to jail for 5-10 years and all will be forgotten. In the meantime, they will loose billions more on the newcomers distributing the content.

They should rather be looking at ways to make new content readily, affordable and easily available across the globe (the same day it starts airing on TV and Cines). This way they will also benefit from the 'piracy' industry. In fact, they may actually eliminate it.

Look at me with regards to piracy:

Fallout 3 pirated, fallout new vegas pirated, fallout 4? already pre-ordered it and im getting the $30 season pass.

Future fallouts? Hell yes, buying it.

piracy will NEVER die,

only way they will stop it is by nuking the consumer, or as a poster said above,

content is released same day on all platforms and no funky DRM on it,
you buy you keep and can share it with whoever you want.

they wasting tax money on something thats unkillable, as soon as it leaves the studio it be pirated.
just a fact of life these days....

Let me get this straight. An association representing and industry who, last time I checked figures, made 54% more profit than they were before the financial crisis AND before Netflix... Who, famously and creatively, can "lose" money on a movie that does half a Billion in worldwide sales... Are shutting down pirate sites... Again? Fsck the NPAA.

The MPAA should be classified as a racketeering organisation. Same goes for RIAA.

I have to say that I get the impression that pirating content is increasingly getting harder to do. The good sites are all gone. The search engines are not of much help - they just show countless DMCA complaints. The torrent sites that remain are so infected with ads and malware - they're such a schlep to use - that it is quite discouraging. This is one side of the coin.

At the same time, more and more legitimate, reasonably priced streaming services are popping up, even in SA. It's a work in progress, sure, but it is happening. It is what we've been asking for all these years.

So yes, piracy will remain to some lesser extent. But I believe the golden era of movie/series/music piracy is over - most of us will be more than happy to pay a rather low monthly fee for a great experience.

I've not personally made the switch to these services - my internet connection currently won't allow for this - but I'll be making the switch in a year or two. And this is fine, I'm happy to pay for content if it gets delivered in the format I choose, which for most of us wil be streaming media in the coming years.

Yes we need a Valve to add movies to Steam.

Thank goodness the Japanese govt and agencies are not as vigorous in pursuing this sort of BS. :)

Can they stop the signal? :p

I think once they do away with selective releases over certain geographical areas and reduce pricing we will agree to agree then. Till then....
