That is if you take out an Extended Data 1GB contract or subscribe to a 1GB Data bundle any time between 18 February and 18 June.
Get the Extended Data 1GB contract, you’ll receive an additional 1 GB of data Free for the entire duration of the 24 month contract.
If you subscribe to the 1GB Data Bundle during this period, you will receive an additional 1 GB of data Free for three consecutive months after date of activation.

Compare apples with apples and we’re sure you’ll agree that you have to Get MTN to get more bytes for your buck.

Data Bundle Subscription Bundled Data included In-Bundle Rate per MB Out-of-Bundle Rate per MB
1GB Bundle R399.00 2048MB R0.20 R1.20

Data Price Plan Subscription Bundled Data included In-Bundle Rate per MB Out-of-Bundle Rate per MB
Extended Data 1GB (Device subsidised) R479.00 2048MB R0.23 R1.20
Extended Data 1GB R399.00 2048MB R0.20 R1.20

This says it's now extended to 18 June.

Looks like MTN takes it's policy decisions a month at a time

They would charge you service fees from now til cancellation date plus a handset clawback of R1710.00, do the math and see if this wuld be a viable option for your pocket.

Would make more sense to just pay R75 x 12.

You can get a 2G bundle from Vodacom for R10 less than MTN's special that they have now extended to June, so why stick with MTN past June if they don't make the special permanent.

And i saw a 500mb capped via Telkom for R199.00, where does it end?

hopefully one day they'll be paying us for using broadband:D

ditto , will just watch MTNSP for specials and see where I can score and not go over the 1gb allocated to my account ...
pity one can't load multiple bundles or a bundle of ones own choice , for eg a 750mb bundle or a 1.5gb bundle and so on ...

considering the handset is subsidised that would make no sense at all.

My current billing cycle started on 27th May and I have not been given the 1gig promotional bundle as in the previous three months. So I am going to cancel my MTN data bundle and go with Vodacom prepaid data.

Doesn't seem like it, I only have 1GB on my account. So much for their promise to extend it to 18 June...

Oh well, I promised to go to Vodacom last month already, so now this is it. MTN, why you would go and shoot yourself in the foot like this, no one will ever know. But you leave your customers no choice.

I am going to use up my data today and then cancel my bundle with MTN.

Regards,

JJF.

If you took the 2GB as an addon to your subscription... then i was told it would run out.... if you took out a completely new 24month contract (like i did) then you will have 2GB every month for 24 months... (which i have)

So mine is still 2GB

From the MTN website :

...if you take out an Extended Data 1GB contract or subscribe to a 1GB Data bundle any time between 18 February and 18 June.
Get the Extended Data 1GB contract, you’ll receive an additional 1 GB of data Free for the entire duration of the 24 month contract.
If you subscribe to the 1GB Data Bundle during this period, you will receive an additional 1 GB of data Free for three consecutive months after date of activation

so it looks like once you have had the add on data bundle for 3 months, you no longer get the additional gig -altho the option to subscribe to the service has been extended to 18 June ...... so if u took it out on 18 February then you would only get the addidtional 1GB until 18 May.....

This is my last month as well - luckily i still have a Vodacom prepaid card i can add 2GB to!

Snakepit,

I sincerely hope that was not a sarcastic statement. MTN had three months to decide how they are going to handle the counter0offer from Vodacom. By deciding to charge their customers double the data rate compared to Vodacom is definately not my idea of a reason to stay loyal.

So yeah, that's the spirit.

Regards,

JJF.

PS. My suggestion for a new MTN add : "Go smewhere else."

I want to thank you guys for this thread.
I read it the day before my 2gig bundle (once off) was to expire along with the promo!
So i rushed down to Checkers, bought a new sim and the necessary airtime and reloaded at 18:00 on the 18th.
Now with the valuable info from this thread i loaded a subscription and Bam, i got my 2gigs worth.
Thanks guys!
Now my question is:
Do i get 2gb for three more months?
If not Vodacom with a data card sounds very lovely indeed.
