MTN 3G and MWeb user - email problems

I have a customer who is on MTN 3G, and she uses Mweb for her email etc. However, she has frequent issues receiving or sending email. Her mail gets bounced by smtp.mtn.co.za (no relaying allowed) when I set that for the SMTP settings, and setting the MWeb SMTP server with authentication works occasionally, but doesn't most of the time. Receiving mail seems very erratic too.

What seetings can I use, or are there any odd issues one should be aware of?

We are in the process of looking for a alternative solution for our SMTP - We are having huge problems at the moment with mail.mtn.co.za and with MTNLOADED we having a final meeting at the end of next week in terms of the solution and should see something there after in the meantime I'm sorry to say there is no work around I do apologize

I had the same problems with MTN and Vodacom. I decided to get a gmail account. You let Gmail collect from the MWEB account. You can also set it up so that Gmail sends from MWEB account. All problems have been solved since then. Most clients find GMAIL much easier to work with than other email clients. Their data usage is also lower. You dont have problems with the local SMTP servers.

Trust me. It all just works. Very happy clients.

I must admit I haven't had a single day's problems with GMAIL I'm very happy with the way it works

Good thinking - I think I'm going to suggest that.

I have customer in Namibia - They don't recieve a single email from me...?

It all happened since last Friday when MTN went offline with smtp...

@MTNDD!!!! You will only have the meeting at the end of NEXT WEEK????

How on earth can MTN wait so long for a solution? I must currently call and SMS to Namibia at quite a few $$$?

Hi Guys,

Is mail.mtn.co.za working yet? I am about to leave for holiday and would like some idea as to what type of service I should expect while away!

Hi
The MTN SMTP is mail.mtn.co.za and not smtp.mtn.co.za. Not sure if you have the incorrect server. Ill also look into the mail server issues from my side. See if there is anything I can do :D

MTN Mail.mtn.co.za

There is a problem with the 3G outgoing mail server ( mail.mtn.co.za).
What ive done to bypass this and help my clients to send mail is:

1. register a gmail account
2. set your outgoing mail server : smtp.gmail.com
3 go to more settings and advanced
select this server uses ssl and set the port to 465
4. select outgoing server select this server uses authentication and use your gmail username and password

employ proper resources who understand how internet services work like myself and you won't have this problem , all the cellular networks now want to offer services left right and sundry and the billing alone is a stuffup if and when the service actually works.

to cut a long story short , apologizing means diddly squat , we as clients pay happily for the service and unless refunds come as happily for a non-working service then we would like to complain and have something done about the complaint.

again one of the many reasons why i refuse to pay via debit order , let the supplier wait for the money the way i wait for the service to work as expected.

This is a very old thread...

mail.mtn.co.za is working 100% no issues.
