Thanx MTN ... MTN 3G/HSDPA coverage ... Hennopspark, Centurion

I started this thread on 17 May last year (2006) ...

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=43679&highlight=3g/HSDPA+Coverage

... and guess what ...

I still don't have 3G/HSDPA or EDGE coverage in Hennopspark, Centurion.

When MTN Data Dude was still around - and after on-site tests by MTN - I was promised (on several occasions) that the Hennopspark tower would be upgraded "soon". This has never happened and I'm still stuck with GPRS only. After 15 months MTN has still not produced the promised goods.

Sad that MTN's technical guys lost interest in this forum.

Hi Trafeye!!!

I've started a billion threads about MTN poor 3G in Raslouw in Centurion... no news yet!!! hehehe!

Welcome to the real world my bru!!! That'll teach us to do business with a lowzy third grade telecoms provider like MTN... (Off topic: Why does MTN have that ugly BOOP BOOP sound when you call an MTN number? Jeez, telkom and VC sounds much better...)

I've been fighting and screaming for a year now. Search my posts on this forum and see for yourself.

To make a long and sad a$$ story short...

MTN promised me an external antenna... I suppose you've already figuered out, I never got it...

I bought myself an antenna today which I now point to Wierda Park. I stay in Raslouw.

I've got full 3G signal now.

So I suggest, take the financial knock, spend a grand, get the antenna and get 3G that way.

MTN is so full of empty promises. My contract expires at the end of Dec 2007 and boy am I going to leave!!! Even now that I have full signal again I will still leave!!!

I'm through with them!!!

They NEVER give what you pay for, but we must pay for what we don't get.

Every night on TV they advertise "GET OUR 3G, GET OUR 3G!!!

Then when you get it and are stuck in a 2 year contract they just tell you to f&%$ off and keep on paying!!!

MTN's guys were here at my house as well... confirmed my poor reception and never heard from them again...

I'm gonna get myself Telkom ADSL!!! I'll rather do business with Telkom than with MTN. At least my land line ALWAYS WORKS!!!!

MTN you suck soooo big time!!!!

When MTN was at my house to test the signal they informed me that in my area an external antennae will have to be mounted at an impossible hight above the house to pick up anything ... and I stay in a double story house. I then joked and said they should fix the antennae to a yellow weather balloon.

Visit www.poynting.co.za. Their telkom lines are down at the moment so no use calling them at this time... They are situated in the Route 21 Corporate park.

They have a 7 day money back guarantee. If it doesn't work then you just take it back. I will in any case not believe what any person form MTN says. Try it out, you've got nothing to lose...

The antenna has a 10dB boost.

If it works you'll be a happy user! Mine works great!

If your house is still too low, you can alway try the weather balloon!!!! :)

At least my land line ALWAYS WORKS!!!!

I wont bet my life on this! Heard nasty stories about the ADSL from collegues...

Anyway - I am near the Centurion mall - also with only 1 bar (yes MTN)... I had Vodacom guys at my house and they said there is NO voda 3G reception...

What is quite interesting is that when you drive a bit out on the R55 (Olievenhoutbosch) I have FULL MTN 3G signal...
So, in a certain space of x km squares size, where there *might* be 5 computers there is full 3G signal... But very poor / no signal in the places where hundreds of people are willing to pay for it... Makes no sense... (Sorry it makes perfect sense in SA where your company motto is to take as much as possible and give as little as possble, with a perfected *NO SERVICE* process to support the above...) :D

Those antennas looks as if it can maybe help - pity its so expensive though...

Typing this at home in Hennopspark on my E90 ... on ... wait for it ... ... 3G! At last! I couldn't believe my eyes when I got home now and saw the 3G signal indicator on my phone. Thank you MTN, it's so much better.
