MTN 3G keeps dropping me In Bloem

MTN - DATA DUDE.

I have not been on the forum for a very long time. Hectic work schedule , etc.
Also I have had very nice service form MTN with no Problems at all.

But no I need help. Ever since early this morning (7-7-2007) from around 00:30 the 3G data connection keeps on dropping me of the net. This is my only internet connection and it is driving me insane !!! I can not do my work.

When I try to reconnect I get an error message - PPP link protocol failed.

then reconnect , reconnect , reconnect .... ad infinitum. at some point I will get a connection again, just to be dropped in 2 mins time.

I have a friend who live nearby who has the same troubles. I expect the 3g tower on northridge mall in Bloem is on the blink.

Please can someone check this out and fix.

Oh PS : I did phone the 808 number and spoke to Mpho, he transferred me to someone else at coverage. They couldnt help me and advised me to phone 1555. I did and spoke to ......? Mpho!! - same guy. Whilst being very friendly he couldnt help me. Eventually he placed me on hold for someone else. After holding for a while I got GaTVOL and put the phone down.

They all seem to try and help me to fix the problem on my phone. Thing is , problem not on my phone, It has been working with the same settigns for the past 7 months !

In the past hour I have been dropped form the 3G network every 10mins !!

No try and download something , or update your website under these conditions !

It is drving me insane !

Use EDGE rather, it might be slow but at least it'll be stable.

I doubt it, its essentially the same technology isn't it? Like 3G and HSDPA.

It is not a case of losing signal,. I have full strength signal, I am about 500m from the tower.

My network connection just gets dropped. then I have to reconnect again.

3G is always on and available. Does that answer something ?

I cannot make any connection with MTN whatsoever! And the odd occasion that it does connect, it drops after a few minutes only never to connect again! Wtf is going on???

I am glad to see i am not alone !!!!

I am bouncing of the walls here. How the F@@@ am i supposed to do my work If I get dropped every two minutes. Then I sukkel my ass of to reconnect with a message saying: the PPP control protocol link has been terminated.

Please MTN - help!!!

long time no hear, i hope you are well otherwise. listen i spoke to the data guys and they have advised me of no problems in the bloem area, up here in jhb though ive been dropped twice aswell for no aparent reason, anoying thing that considering im working from home myself.
try changing to a static apn and using the "internet" apn, i pray this helps.

Connection dropping in Honeydew, JHB

Have been dropped continually for the last 2 days on 3G and EDGE.

Sort of solved my problem by starting a continuous ping with a 1 byte size to a international site.

This seems to keep the connection open.
Does take some of the bandwidth though

The problem is also that once i have been dropped I struggle for up to an hour to reconnect.

continuously getting an error meassage about the PPP control protocol link terminated.

Wished I could find someone at MTN to scream at yesterday. I hope they solve this soon.

I am now using a friends VODACOM simcard in my phone just to be able to connect to the net to post this.

This is defiantly a MTN network problem. My wife id using an Imate Kjam on MTN and as of Friday she is also not able to connect to the net.

snakepit, pitbull, mtn data dude. please somebody. can you guy not connect to the tower close to my home and reset the thing ?
