MTN 5G coming to South Africa - Here is how it will work

MTN South Africa has confirmed that it will continue to offer 5G services after its temporary spectrum from ICASA is retracted.

This follows the mobile operator announcing that it would launch a new 5G network this month and promoting this 5G product in its Y'ello magazine.

That is great, but the data bundles are to small to go with that speed. Imagine getting 500mb on 5G.

I felt like MTN didn't answer any question fully all i noticed is "3GPP release 15" response each time Mybroadband asked MTN about 5G, maybe the should tell Mybroadband basic hardware elements they will be using to offer high speed internet like possible user through put

Wonder if this will mean better ping to AWS in Cape Town? /s I'm super fed up how every other ISP gets under 50ms ping from my area but MTN gets double that.
I know people are going to say why don't you use another ISP well I've got a contract with MTN and because of the **** covid has caused I find myself in financial distress so I can't just use another ISP.

I read the article twice and didn't see any new information.

• It says they upgraded to rel. 15, which is a given - not new info
• They mentioned the 3.5GHz spectrum, and acknowledged that will be temporary. What after?
• They mentioned spectrum sharing (already mentioned in previous articles).
• They mentioned the Huawei P40, which MyBB has already discussed.
• They mentioned it will be on the same tariffs - which is useful, I guess.

The delays in landing equipment were mentioned, but that doesn't tell you how MTN will launch either.

Key question which the article should address - on what spectrum and where?
