Bloody HELL!

I cracked my phone's lcd and sent it in for repairs, they call me and tell me that the repairs will cost R350. I told them to go ahead, and repair the thing... a month later, they phone me and tell me "NO the initial quote was a mistake, they must replace the phone for R1950". So I'm like flip, OK... The flippin lady on the phone refuses to let me ask why the price just jumped up, and I was on course, so I can't sit and argue with her. Next thing when I go to get the phone, they replace it with a crapper model...

WTF!!!

What phone was it? Even expensive Samsung LCD screens like the D900 should not cost more than R1000 fitted!

Phone

The one I broke was an iMate JasJar, and they tried to give me an iMate JasJam back.

The trade price on the LCD for a JasJar is R1550 - Not a phone as such its a PDA and the price of the LCD reflects this! Fitted it shouldn't cost much more than R1750 even at "big three" prices!

I'd be tempted to ask for your old handset back just to see what they say!

I had a Nokia 6280 that was returned to a customer (by one of the "big three" providers) as Beyond Economic Repair (BER) last week... The front keypad didn't work and there were no lights on the screen... It all looked quite serious until I plugged the front keypad back firmly onto its flex cable! So his BER phone cost him R50 for me to fix!

The trouble is these volume repair centres are just that - volume but no quality!

Having had a friend who worked in a cellphone repair center, what you were told usually means a newbie techie completely stuffed-up your cell beyond repair.

And 'water-damage' means the guy soldering a component probably put his soldering iron right through your circuit board... ;)

Actually if the little litmus paper thingy is red they just throw it away as BER. The phone still works though.

The trouble is those little warning tags that turn red when wet do so here by the sea in any case! Sorry Sir you'll have to move!

Water damage Sir = We haven't got a clue how to fix your phone, so I spat on the tag to turn it red!

BER = We don't have the equipment or spares to fix your handset as our manager cut our budget!

Damn them!

I asked for my phone back. I told them to go [inappropriate word] themselves.

i'm getting a friend to bring in a replacement LCD from the UK at about R1050. It comes with the tools to open up the phone and with a "free" LCD screen protector.

Thank goodness for these thieving bastards.

I cracked my Jasjar's screen a year ago too. I took it too Leaf Wireless for repairs [the people who import iMate stuff] . It cost R2000 to replace the screen, so it IS pretty expensive . Also keep in mind the Jasjar got a pretty big screen.

Annnyhow, the diff was, i insured my phone with 'n proper insurance company..NOT with MTN or Vodacom. Insurance paid for all the repairs.
