Has anyone also found out the new MTN policy to add R50 to any contract, in order to convert it to topup? it used to be the price was the same for open ended or topup. then a while they strted charging R10 to switch it to topup. that was fine as it was a kinda insurance policy to ensure you dont go over your monthly amount.
However, now recently they have changed this to R50. I have 5 x MTN contracts and as i upgrade, my bill increases by R50 per contract. if i dont take it, then my contract is totally open without a limit. they also WILL NOT add a limit to the contract to block it when the limit is exceeded.

Now multiply that R50 by millions of contracts. my biggest gripe is that the R50 is not advertised anywhere. u only find out when you go into the store and sign the papers.

I feel this should be highlighted in all their advertising.

Anyone else seen this?

I was looking at contracts last month (looking for a good deal for GF) and I saw the R50 extra on the Topup things prices so don't know how it invisible.

So now one either decides if it is the best deal or not with the R50 extra pricing and if it isn't, go to the provider with the best deal.

I didnt mind paying R10 more for the top up but R50 is way over plus I notice the data allocation on the top up is a lot less then the open line (at least on the galaxy s4 it was)

Hi There,
I believe that it would be impossible to put all the terms and conditions into the advertising hence the reason why there is the Terms and Conditions at the bottom of the advertising.
If you believe the advertising is misleading then you can approach the Advertising Standards Authority.
As with any contract it is essential to read the small print and if you do not understand it you have the right under the Consumer Protection Act to demand an explanation and implications of the term before signing the contract.

Regards

Tim

that is true they charge more for topup and they dont give data free on topup so whats the point on geting it to pay more ,if you dont know you get punished so beware of taking topup, also you loose your data bundle if you put more data on anytime

It actually makes perfect sense. One average people on open contracts use more of their contract, so that's why you get a better deal. It's almost like contention ratios on ADSL. They can play with the pricing as they know the average usage.

With topups this doesn't happen. It's a fixed cost, hence it costs more.

The baastids! I'm paying r10 extra. How legal is that? They want you to take a normal contract so you can go merrily over. So now they ensuring they get at least r50 from you.

These guys are fsucking pathetic. Can't believe the kark we as consumers have to endure. They basically looking for new ways to screw us over!

Isn't that act suppose to protect us? Thus just pi$$es me off!

I'm on the open ended contract and I have a cut of point so not sure what the OP was meaning. The minimum that you can add for cut off point, is R50 so maybe this is the R50 that everyone is talking about? But i know, on my contract, i don't pay anything extra than what was originally quoted to me. I'm on the AnyTime R200
