2GB bundle is R389 (even that is )
1GB bundle is R289

R390 + R390 + R290 = R1 070

Honest mistake should not be punished. Esp with the vague bonus points SMS... (I'd try for no charges at all)

SMS' are not a means of communication where receipt is "acknowledged"....

Good point!

I've noticed of late MTN's airtime and specifically Data bundle voice menu's are particularly un-user friendly, almost every step is "You have read the T&C on their website". I am sure they have this in place so as to 'protect' themselves but in actual fact just makes it more confusing to enable their lawyers to screw their customers.

Never ever sign a contract with any telco company in S.A, apply the antiNike phylosophy - Just Do Not!

Just Do Not!©

And with that I hereby copyright the business model of selling takkies* on contract with 'Free" upgrades over a period of time.

*The term takkies shall cover all all forms of footwear manufactured from any material

I have a bit of a problem and wondered if anyone of you guys could help me by telling me what I can do.

The other day I purched a "One day Unlimited Internet" bundle whict is charged @ R50. I downloaded 5GB of data, which as far as I can tell was well within any "FUPollicy" and recieved a bill of R11000, jip you read it correctly, R11k .

I did find that there is a fair use policy which will drop your speed to 128Kbps if you exceed 150MB before the 24hr timeline, although my speed didn't .

As far as I can tell it is not my fault they didn't throttel me, in any case, I didn't even know there was such a policy till today.

Any sugesstions or sould I go directly to the papers?

Listen

Firstly You will never be able to download %GB if the unlimited 24 hour was active!. Because when you reach 150MB upload/download they cap you at 128kb ps!!! The smallest 3g modem is 3.6MB per second and I reach the cap after 2 hours because the operating system updates etc in the background and then it gets so slow you cant properly open a page and a 5mb download takes an hour..

NUMBER TWO First you buy the bundle from 555 or 141 or *141*6# and select options, then it is in your phone but you need to activate it by dialling a longer code that will be smsed to you at which point you will receive an activation sms. Now go to the papers and make yourself a bigger fool than you already are..

I often buy a number of bundles at a time which are loaded and ready to be activated when I need them.

i can see where you are coming from. but it still seems to me that the buy and use is the better model.

in this case it seems to me to be a case of capitalising on a situation from MTN. if it can be seen on their systems that the fella started downloading after the buying of the package, it is poor customer relations to not at the very least offer some kind of lesser charge.

How does MTN know it's an honest mistake?

You shouldn't make fun of intell1gence just yet. People do crazy things when they're in debt. I personally would be pissed off if this happened to me.

Can someone please tell me, who governs these corporates and their corrupt systems?

MTN Data Usage Check - 2 to 24 hours. In 24 hours at current out of bundle rates, you can BANKRUPT yourself using a 40Mps 3G connection.

MTN Data Activation scams - These are immoral and the consumer should not be liable for (TWICE) activating services he/she initiated.

If the ******* in charge of regulation knew how to read and write english, maybe poor people like this wouldn't exist.

We need to make world+dog aware of using prepaid SIM's instead of contract SIM's when trying this sort of thing.

I'm satisfied with CellC's 5Gb monthly prepaid offering.

You could approach the consumer council. The new consumer protection act that will become effective somewhere around March 2011 has been put in place to protect the public from this kind of exploit. I would not pay that bill without a fight, you can not advertise unlimited data if you are not prepared to stand behind it. If you have an sms that proves you bought the bundle I believe you have a case here.
