MTN price increases

MTN has announced price hikes for its contract packages which will come into effect from 1 May 2022.

The company said an inflationary environment has significantly contributed to increased input costs, compelling it to react to sustained market pressures.

Contracts only hold for consumers, not companies.

I think it should be illegal to have a cost escalation for a short term contract OR the consumer has the right to immediately cease the contract with similar notice and zero penalties.
Unfortunately it’s all in the fine print. Nicely hidden in one of the thousand pages we initial.

Wow, so MTN does the same thing as Vodacom? Guess they're all the same...

I wouldn't necessarily go so far as to make it illegal, but I would make it mandatory that any contract cost escalations trigger a clause which allows the customer to cease the contract with zero penalties (other than for supplied hardware, at the prevailing market rate less "time served")

Or the trade in rate that some of these guys offer lol

Lol contracts up for renewal next week, will see what I can squeeze out of them. Current offer they have for me so far is MTN mychoice 100, 300 gig data for R299, even if it goes up 15 bucks would be worth it.

Second time in past few years MTN has pulled this.
I bet a new user you will get most of these contracts at the old price while existing users are punished.

Their reasoning makes no sense. Having existing users is supposed to help you determine what upgrades, income and costs are expected over the contract period.

All it is, is a giant cash grab, ala tax style... we are too lazy to make ourselves more efficient or upsell customers on valuable products we have built, so lets punish loyal users by increasing their contracts.

MTN is also notorious for paying out the biggest bonuses in the telecoms industry. Im not against guys getting remunerated, but if you paying out the biggest bonuses and increasing contracted customers then you might not deserve that large a bonus.

The bastards are hitting me for R10pm.
