MTN has announced plans to launch a sub-R1,000 Android tablet to the South African market

Yeah. What else could you get for that price anyway. Doesn't sound too bad to me.

It's cheap because they want you to buy data so they make their money back.

Network providers can't lock devices to a certain network , its against the law in south africa.

This has been the case for many years now. Strangely some people still people that networks lock devices. This was in the 90s.

These are same people that don't know that Cell C has it's own network and think they are still roaming all their traffic on VDC

Got one of these tabs yesterday. Wife's lenovo Ideatab A3000 has to go in for repairs (Ghost touches on screen) and got this as a stand in while her tab is getting fixed. It is flippen nice, like REALLY NICE.

Apologies for hi-jacking an old thread, but my MTN Steppa tablet has a smashed digitizer. I took it to an MTN store today and the worker told me it would be around R2000 to fix it, despite a new tablet only costing R999. Has anyone been in a similar situation and know of any other companies that will repair the tablet for less? I'm a volunteer from overseas and as such I can't shell out another thousand bucks for a new one. Thanks in advance.

Network providers can't lock devices to a certain network , its against the law in south africa.

Yet 8ta locked the phone we bought cash from them with the lunchbox deal and couldn't use any other network simcard in it.

Rather buy a new tablet. ROUGH estimate will set you back R800 to fix..
